About Robson Chamberlin
Now a retired company director, Robson Chamberlin has experienced unemployment three times in his life; twice when he was well into his 50s and the unemployment rate was just over 10%. He developed the strategies in this book during that time and has since refined them and discussed them with many other people of all ages and working backgrounds. As part of his own journey, he also had a major career change in order to gain employment and after 13 years as a primary school teacher and then principal spent 15 years hiring sales staff for three different life insurance companies. He has also sat on the selection committee and participated in the interview process for engaging highly qualified teachers seeking senior positions.

He says that the most compelling of all his employment experiences came as a self employed trainer, when in 1994 he gained a government agency contract to provide work based training for long term unemployed Maori and Pacific Island people in Auckland. At that time, the unemployment rate was sitting at 8% and morale was very low. He spent most of his time simply cold calling employers seeking to place his trainees into a work training role that may eventually lead to a real job. This role lasted for 12 years and gave Robson staggering insights into what it takes to get a job, or change from one job to another. He’s drawn heavily on these experiences and the many lessons about work relative motivation and the power of the human spirit to write ‘How to Get a Job’.

Robson lives in Auckland with his wife Maureen. They have been married 45 years and have three sons and 9 grandchildren.
