How it works:
Rights-sales are made on the basis that the international publisher will take the option to produce and publish your book for a period of X years, in a specific region, language or even globally. They will pay (ave) 10% royalties to you the author on net sales. There are many options in the agreements made between authors and publishers, and one to be wary of if the possibility that your book may be optioned, but not actually produced after a certain period of time
Royalties are paid 6 monthly, and while an advance is paid up front (usually) for new agreements the initial production run may be relatively small by international standards, and don’t go shopping for a new sports car on the first book. In order to get an agreement for international distribution or publishing or even to secure a literary agent, you will almost certainly need to be represented by an agent or existing publisher.
Maruki Books can manage the process of listing your book with all of the above places, including the e-book outlets worldwide. This makes the process of keeping track of each distribution option easier for you - only one set of reports to worry about each month/quarter, and your fees on sales made are processed by us and paid out in one cheque.
We take 25% commission from all royalties and sales made via the distribution options outlined above and 25% on all international royalties paid. We operate as your agents and continue to promote you at all opportunities, and ensure that the distributors are continuing to promote your books properly online etc. We also save you the hassle of uploading everything yourself - which is a time consuming process - you enjoy the benefits of being represented by a publishing company, instead of being perceived as an individual self publishing author - in publishing, there is definitely strength in numbers.
