Maruki Books is pleased to announce a new opportunity for budding speakers, authors, professional knowledge merchants and experts who need development coaching to become well paid professional experts in their field. There are two programmes offered, each designed to help answer the many questions that people have as they venture into the world of professional speaking, writing, and putting their knowldege out into the world.

Congratulations to John Horan of Horan & Bird Electrical, Australian Master Electricians of the Year 2009, and also finalists in the Australian Business Awards.
It was a very busy end of year for John Horan. After winning the Queensland State Champion Business Awards, he went on to take out the Master Electrician Awards for Australia and was named a finalist in the Australian Business Awards. John is writing his first book, with accountant, coach and friend Gerry Maguire titled 'How to Escape Quicksand - the ultimate business guide for tradespeople'. This is due for release in early 2010, and charts John's own journery as a start-up electrical company, detailing the pitfalls and highlights, with contributions by Gerry and also John's wife, Rosemarie tells her perspective and gives insights into how many tradespeople learn the hard way about work/life balance.

Named Business Person of the Year
On Wednesday 10th December, Maria Carlton was named Business Person of the Year by the National Speaker's Association, Auckland, New Zealand, 'in recognition of significant business development achievements that support professional speaking'.
Maria has developed a niche publishing business catering specially to the needs of the professional speaking industry and quickly created a reputation for generously assisting new authors to achieve top outcomes for their books.
Maria's company, Maruki Books Ltd was started less than 2 years ago as Phantom Publishing, and become Maruki Books in early 2008 with a clear focus on helping professional speakers to write, create, market and distribute top quality non-fiction books.
Other award winners on the night included Ngahihi te Bidios and Allison Mooney.
New Relationships Open up the World to our Authors
Over the summer months Maria has been busy forming and growing relationships with new people who can help take Maruki Authors books to the world. An agreement has been reached for Maruki Books to be represented at all of the major world book fairs, including New York, London and Frankfurt by one of the USA's leading literary agents,
Nigel Yorwerth.
Nigel is well recognised by the publishing industry as being 'top rank' and has been described as a legendary Sales person and outstanding expert in taking books to market. He has been behind several NY Best selling books including The Fat-Flush Plan by Ann Louise Gittleman. Maruki Books is currently the only publisher from 'Down Under' selected to be represented by
Yorwerth & Associates.
The Frankurt Book Fair
Again it was enormous and hard to believe a whole month now gone by since I was there. It's always huge preparation to get there, with connections being made, appointments set and preliminary information exchanged about the books being represented. Then you arrive and enter on the first day and can almost smell the excitement and anticipation mixed with the printers ink on freshly created imaging, book samples and new busienss cards being handed out.
For 5 days you are caught in an 'otherworld experience' of being cocooned by the book industry. There are thousands of exhitors, spread throughout 9 massive halls, some of which are multi-stories, and just about every language catered for. Bus shuttles run people from one area to another, and everywhere you look there are books, books and more books.
For book lovers like me, its heaven! And I'd love to be left there for a year to perurse the halls and sit and read some of the many interesting books that jump out and beg for attention. But there's work to be done and only 5 days to do it in.
On return from Frankfurt it's even busier than the lead up as follow-up letters and samples, catalogues and informatoin is sent to those publishers you wish to do business with - and for me selling rights on books. It's good to have so many who are interested in such a wide range of our titles. It does take time for contracts to be offered and everything to fall into place, but we are very expectant that despite economic turmoil in the world at large, the book business will continue to flourish as more people seek inspiration, motivation, ideas and general knowlege.
