Here’s the story of a girl who wanted to write a book one day:
She heard about a programme run by an American publisher who wanted to teach people about marketing, publishing and how to write a bestselling book. She made some enquiries and heard from a lady named Jill who quizzed her about her writing and mentoring skills and experience. Then a few a days later, she got a call from a man named John, who asked a lot more questions. Then she got to ask a few of her own…. It turned out that John was a publisher who had worked on more than 65 books, and had mentored, assisted in the production of, and published for people like Deepak Chopra, Mark Victor Hansen, Jack Canfield, Brian Tracy, Bob Proctor and was himself a protégé of Jay Abraham. John wanted to share his knowledge with 50 people from around the world and this was part of the selection process.
A few weeks later – and some more questions of course – and she got the call to say she had been shortlisted from 3000 original applicants down to 600. Finally – she was selected as one of 50 people who would be personally tutored by John Eggen for one year. (It felt like winning lotto!)
Over the following 12 months, John taught the girl – and 49 others from around the world – all he could about marketing, publishing, authoring and writing. He brought in top editors, publicists and designers to help teach, and as part of the process they created a book to demonstrate all that was being learned in that global classroom.
As part of that process, she learned to write her own book – went to Las Vegas to launch it, spent some time talking one-one with Michael Gerber, (author of The E-Myth Revisited), and she also spent the afternoon with John Eggen being personally mentored in San Francisco, then returned home with an even greater understanding of the book business and how it could work for non-fiction writers. Their book was launched worldwide and the publicity generated for the girl was enough to create job opportunities, contracts, and more books – that year she was named Author of the Year by NSANZ (Auckland).
That was me. And that 12 month long programme and the resulting opportunities that still open up to me from being part of that programme and being named ‘a bestselling international author’ have been nothing short of fantastic.

Since 2004 I’ve written 6 books with my own name on the cover, ghost written for several other authors, published more than 25 books, and spoken professionally in 4 countries. I have also secured contracts for 6 books with international publishers, attended 3 international book trade fairs, and helped secure hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of free advertising for myself and my clients. Add to that my ability to attract top internationally renowned literary agents and publishers who want to work with me and my authors –and I think I can say I’ve made considerable success of my work as an author/speaker/publisher.
